Before anyone can get on the air, that person(s) need to be licensed and know the rules to operate legally. US licenses are good for 10 years before renewal and anyone may hold one except a representative of a foreign government. In the US there are three license classes—Technician, General and Extra.
The world of Amateur Radio is vast and it starts with a 35 question FCC licensing test. There are many places to get study material or even take practice tests. The Technician License Ham Radio class is part of ongoing series structured to get you to pass the test. After you pass the test there will be encouragement from the Patriot VE Team and Colorado Ready to learn more.
The class is lead and taught by ARRL register instructor(s) from both Patriot VE Team and Colorado Ready.
Class will be in session Tuesdays and Thursday nights from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM MST. Please let us know if there is any issues with not attending certain nights. The design of this class is to help you pass the exam and learn a little something along the way.
Studying is the key to passing the exam / test and practicing the questions is nay form is the key. Below are just a few places that you can find some study materials:
- Fortune Favors the Prepared Amateur (Ham) Radio Learning Resources
- KB6NU No-Nonsense Study Guides
- ARRL Getting Licensed
- Ham Radio Outlet
